Cloudflare launches Mesh for AI agent security

April 14, 2026 9:00 AM

Cloudflare Inc. (NYSE: NET) announced the launch of Cloudflare Mesh, a private networking solution designed to secure AI agent connections and infrastructure access.

The product addresses security challenges organizations face when deploying AI agents that require access to private databases, internal APIs, and staging environments. According to the company, traditional VPN solutions create delays and security risks when granting AI agents necessary access permissions.

"AI agents are a standard in modern developer workflows, but they're being throttled by a networking model that was designed strictly for humans," said Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare. "Now, Cloudflare Mesh removes that trade-off. We are providing a secure bridge between agents and infrastructure."

Cloudflare Mesh creates encrypted connections between AI agents, human users, and multicloud infrastructure without exposing internal systems to the public internet. The platform assigns distinct identities to each AI agent, allowing security teams to establish granular access policies.

The service integrates with Cloudflare's existing developer platform, including Workers, Workers VPC, and the Agents SDK. Key features include cross-cloud networking capabilities that connect AWS and Google Cloud Platform environments, encrypted routing of private IP addresses through Cloudflare's global network, and API access controls for AI agents running on Cloudflare Workers.

The company positions Mesh as the foundation for managing AI agent lifecycles, from deployment through governance. Organizations can establish private network fabrics that wall off sensitive infrastructure from external threats while maintaining agent functionality.
