SAIC supported NASA's Artemis II mission safety operations
Science Applications International Corp. (NASDAQ: SAIC) announced its role as a mission assurance partner for NASA's Artemis II lunar mission. The company provided safety analysis and risk mitigation across mission components including Crew Survival Analysis, Exploration Ground Systems, the Space Launch System, and Orion spacecraft.
SAIC conducted safety evaluations during all mission phases from design through the crew's return to Earth. The company reviewed hardware and software systems, developed integrated hazard analysis, and performed flight hardware inspections for the nearly 10-day lunar flyby mission.
The contractor operated real-time mission expertise on the Safety Console at Johnson Space Center's Mission Evaluation Room, monitoring in-flight anomalies and identifying actions to protect the crew. For the Orion spacecraft, SAIC created a landing and recovery simulation tool and conducted crew survival analysis to identify capabilities and risks.
"We are honored to have played our mission assurance role during all phases of this historic journey," said Praveen Kurian, SAIC Senior Vice President of Defense and Civil Space Market.
SAIC is working with NASA on post-flight mission analysis to capture lessons for future Artemis missions. The company has maintained a partnership with NASA for over 50 years.
SAIC, headquartered in Reston, Virginia, employs approximately 23,000 people and reported annual revenues of about $7.3 billion, according to the company statement.
