Sezzle launches virtual card in Canada for in-store payments
Sezzle Inc. (NASDAQ: SEZL) launched its Virtual Card in Canada, enabling customers to use the company's buy now, pay later service at physical retail locations. The card is powered by Marqeta's card issuing platform and can be added to digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Wallet.
The virtual card is available at retailers including SoftMoc, JD Sports Canada, QE Home, Mastermind Toys, West Coast Kids, and other brands across various retail categories. The service requires no additional integration from merchants and works with contactless payments accepted at more than 90% of Canadian retailers.
According to a 2025 survey of Canadian Sezzle users, 74% reported being more likely to shop in-store if Sezzle was available. The company reported 1.9 million user sign-ups in Canada, approaching 7 million total orders, and more than 60,000 users of its credit-building product Sezzle Up.
"The launch of our Virtual Card marks a major milestone for Sezzle in Canada," said Patrick Chan, general manager of Sezzle Canada. "By enabling shoppers to use a Sezzle virtual card, we're dramatically expanding access to flexible payments."
Christina Xu, CEO of QE Home, said the company has offered buy now, pay later online since 2020 and is expanding the service to all 75+ stores across Canada to deliver an omnichannel experience.
Todd Pollak, chief revenue officer at Marqeta, said the partnership builds on momentum from Sezzle's Virtual Card in the U.S. market. Marqeta's platform enables instant card issuance and provisioning into mobile wallets with real-time spending controls.
