Alpha and Omega Semiconductor begins production at new India facility

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (NASDAQ: AOSL) announced the commencement of commercial production of its IPM5 intelligent power modules at Kaynes Semicon's new facility in Sanand, Gujarat, India.

The facility's inauguration was attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and marks the implementation of AOS' proprietary IPM5 manufacturing process at the location. The IPM5 modules integrate 17 different dies into a single package for motor controls and energy-efficient appliances.

The Sanand facility achieved operational status 14 months after groundbreaking, according to the company's press release. AOS engineers collaborated with Kaynes Semicon's team to establish the semiconductor packaging and testing capabilities at the location.

The production facility supports both domestic Indian markets and global distribution, with AOS describing the products as manufactured in India for worldwide markets. The partnership represents AOS' expansion of its global manufacturing footprint and aligns with India's semiconductor mission objectives.

AOS designs and manufactures discrete power devices, wide bandgap power devices, power management integrated circuits, and modules. The company's products target applications including personal computers, data centers, smartphones, automotive electronics, and industrial motor controls.
