April 14, 2026 7:29 AM

Albertsons Companies Inc. (NYSE: ACI) announced a $774 million settlement framework to resolve opioid-related claims brought by state, local and tribal government entities nationwide, contingent on all conditions being satisfied.

The grocery chain stated the settlement does not constitute an admission of wrongdoing or liability. The company said the framework represents a step toward resolving opioid-related litigation and serves the best interests of all parties involved.

Albertsons operates 2,244 retail food and drug stores with 1,713 in-store pharmacies across 35 states and the District of Columbia as of February 28, 2026. The company's pharmacy operations include brands such as Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, and Jewel-Osco.

The settlement framework addresses claims related to the company's pharmacy operations and prescription medication dispensing practices. Albertsons emphasized its ongoing investment in pharmacy safety protocols and training programs for pharmacy staff.

The company stated it will continue its commitment to patient safety and responsible pharmacy operations while serving as a partner in addressing the opioid crisis. Albertsons highlighted the role of its pharmacists in providing medication guidance and education to patients in their communities.

The announcement comes as various companies across the pharmaceutical supply chain have faced litigation related to the opioid epidemic. The settlement framework requires satisfaction of unspecified conditions before becoming final.
