Amazon reaches $25 billion investment plan for Mississippi data centers
Amazon Web Services announced its total planned investment in Mississippi has reached $25 billion, with the company expecting to create 2,000 jobs across its data center operations in the state.
The investment includes an additional $11 billion in Madison County and $1 billion in Hinds County, where Amazon is converting a former Delphi manufacturing plant into a data center facility. The company previously announced a $3 billion investment in Warren County.
"Amazon's $25 billion investment in Mississippi to build data centers will create 2,000 high-skilled jobs and bring new energy generation to the grid," said David Zapolsky, Amazon's chief global affairs and legal officer.
The company stated it will cover all costs associated with new data center campuses, including expenses for new energy infrastructure and upgrades. Amazon's investment enables Entergy Mississippi's $300 million grid improvement initiative, which the utility said will deliver a 50% improvement in grid reliability statewide.
Amazon has invested in five renewable energy projects generating 616 megawatts of carbon-free energy in Mississippi through solar and wind farms. The projects include Delta Wind, described as the state's first utility-scale wind farm.
The company's Canton facility will transition to using 100% recycled wastewater for cooling by 2027, reusing approximately 83 million gallons annually. Amazon's Mississippi data centers currently use outside air for cooling 91% of the year.
Amazon and Mississippi have collaborated on more than $12 million in workforce and education investments since 2024, serving over 700 workers, 7,000 students, and 1,000 educators according to the company.
The information is based on an Amazon press release statement. Amazon has separately invested more than $5.8 billion in operations infrastructure across Mississippi, supporting over 7,000 full and part-time employees in fulfillment, logistics, delivery and retail operations.
