Amazon Pharmacy adds Eli Lilly's GLP-1 pill with same-day delivery
Amazon Pharmacy (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced it will offer Eli Lilly and Company's recently approved GLP-1 medication Foundayo through its delivery network. The once-daily oral treatment for adults with obesity or overweight with weight-related medical problems will be available via same-day delivery in nearly 3,000 cities and towns, expanding to nearly 4,500 locations by year end.
Customers with valid prescriptions can order Foundayo through Amazon Pharmacy with pricing starting at $1 per day with insurance or $5 per day for cash payments. Manufacturer-sponsored coupons are automatically applied at checkout. The medication will also be available through in-office kiosks at select One Medical locations following medical appointments.
"Amazon Pharmacy is reducing barriers for customers to access new weight management treatments like Foundayo," said Tanvi Patel, Vice President and General Manager of Amazon Pharmacy. "We are giving customers faster treatment options with our Same-Day Delivery offering, easy ways to save with automatically applied manufacturer coupons and the price transparency they need to make informed decisions about their care."
Laura Steele, Group Vice President of U.S. Cardiometabolic Health at Eli Lilly and Company, stated that the partnership aims to eliminate waiting and uncertainty patients face when starting treatment. Amazon Pharmacy has delivered GLP-1 medications since 2021 and reports customers have saved more than $200 million through automatic coupons, with GLP-1 medications representing the largest savings category.
In remote areas where brick-and-mortar pharmacies may be 45 to 60 minutes away, Amazon Pharmacy will offer next-day, two-day and three-day delivery options, compared to five to 10 days for other mail-order services.
