AMTD Group chairman joins HKUST Guangzhou advisory board
Dr. Feridun Hamdullahpur, chairman of AMTD Group and related companies including AMTD IDEA Group (NYSE: AMTD), has been appointed to the Global Strategic Advisory Board of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou).
HKUST(GZ) launched its Global Strategic Advisory Board on March 25. The board comprises eight leaders from higher education institutions across seven countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, New Zealand, Switzerland, and China. Dr. Hamdullahpur serves as the representative from Canada.
The board is chaired by Prof. Sir Jim McDonald, former principal and vice-chancellor of The University of Strathclyde. Other members include former university presidents and academics from institutions such as École Polytechnique, Fudan University, and the University of Auckland.
The board will support HKUST(GZ) in strengthening cross-disciplinary education and research while promoting Guangzhou and the Greater Bay Area as an international education hub and innovation center.
Dr. Hamdullahpur currently serves as chancellor of The International Business University and sits on advisory boards at King Abdulaziz University and Sorbonne University. He previously served as vice chancellor and president of the University of Waterloo.
His career recognitions include being named a Member of the Order of Canada in 2022 and receiving the Knight of the Order of Palmes Académiques from France in 2019. He was recognized as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2018 and received China's Friendship Award for foreign experts.
AMTD has established educational partnerships including the AMTD FinTech Centre at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and collaborations with Singapore Management University and the University of Waterloo, according to the company's press release.
