Moleculin highlights Annamycin's non-cardiotoxic profile in CEO video

April 7, 2026 12:52 PM

Moleculin Biotech Inc. (NASDAQ: MBRX) released a CEO Corner segment featuring Chief Executive Officer Walter Klemp discussing the safety profile of Annamycin, the company's lead drug candidate.

Klemp emphasized Annamycin's lack of cardiotoxicity, a limitation associated with traditional anthracyclines such as doxorubicin. The company states Annamycin was designed to avoid cardiac damage and has demonstrated this advantage in preclinical and clinical studies.

The non-cardiotoxic profile could expand treatment options for patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia and advanced solid tumors, particularly those previously treated with anthracycines or with existing cardiac risk factors, according to the press release.

Moleculin is currently conducting the MIRACLE Study, a Phase 3 trial evaluating Annamycin in combination with cytarabine for treatment of relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia. The company describes this as a pivotal, adaptive design trial.

The Houston-based pharmaceutical company is in Phase 3 clinical stage, advancing therapeutic candidates for hard-to-treat tumors and viruses. Besides Annamycin, Moleculin is developing WP1066 for brain tumors, pancreatic and other cancers, and has a pipeline of antimetabolites including WP1122.

The CEO Corner segment is available on the company's website, according to the announcement.
