Emergent BioSolutions launches NARCAN carrying case and multipacks
Emergent BioSolutions Inc. (NYSE: EBS) announced the launch of a new carrying case for NARCAN Nasal Spray and expanded multipack options to increase access to the opioid overdose reversal medication.
The company introduced a compact, discreet carrying case designed to clip onto backpacks or bags, addressing survey findings that 81% of college students prefer a case for carrying naloxone. The case is now available on Amazon.
Emergent also expanded NARCAN Nasal Spray multipack availability to include 6-count and 24-count options for organizations distributing higher volumes of naloxone. These multipacks are available through NarcanDirect.com for public interest customers.
The initiatives coincide with a college campus outreach program featuring Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith and Release Recovery Founder Zac Clark at Southern Methodist University. The event focuses on mental health awareness and reducing stigma associated with opioid overdose.
According to company-cited research, only one in 10 people in the general population currently carries naloxone. Opioid misuse and dependency rates are highest among young adults ages 18 to 25, with approximately one in three college students knowing someone who has overdosed.
"The opioid epidemic continues to impact individuals and communities every day, and each tool we can provide to increase preparedness and reduce stigma is vital," said Paul Williams, senior vice president at Emergent.
NARCAN Nasal Spray is the first FDA-approved over-the-counter naloxone product for emergency treatment of opioid overdose. The company noted that Smith and Clark are paid spokespeople for Emergent BioSolutions.
