AeroVironment unit wins $25M Air Force contract for health tech

April 7, 2026 9:27 AM

AeroVironment Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) announced that its UES division received a three-year, $25 million contract from the United States Air Force to advance human health and performance technologies for military deployment.

The contract supports the Air Force Research Laboratory's 711th Human Performance Wing Human Effectiveness Directorate. UES will work to mature sensor, diagnostic, and material technologies currently at Technology Readiness Levels 3-5 for field deployment to enhance warfighter readiness and survivability.

The project focuses on four areas: advanced sensor systems for airframe and pilot integration, ruggedized wearable diagnostic tools for medical and environmental assessments, AI and machine learning-enabled databases for biosensor data analysis, and biotechnology platforms including stress-mitigating probiotics and synthetic biology-based sensors.

AeroVironment will use in-house prototyping and AI-enhanced data analytics to test and advance the technologies. The work builds on previous collaboration between AeroVironment and the 711 HPW, including deployment of onboard oxygen monitoring sensors to investigate unexplained physiological events in pilots.

The contract addresses hardware ruggedization, faster data processing, and enhanced user interfaces to meet Air and Space Force operational requirements. The technologies are designed to monitor physiological and environmental conditions in harsh operating environments with limited infrastructure access.

AeroVironment develops autonomous systems, loitering munitions, counter-UAS technologies, and other defense systems. The company operates manufacturing facilities across the United States and maintains research and development operations in multiple technology areas.
