Amentum wins $425 million CAL FIRE aerial firefighting contract
Amentum (NYSE: AMTM) received a $425 million contract from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection to provide aerial firefighting support services. The initial three-year agreement includes two option years that could extend the partnership.
Under the contract, Amentum will manage training, scheduling and mobilization of 350 pilots and mechanics to support California's firefighting aircraft operations. The company will provide program management, training services, and operational deployment capabilities for the state's specialized aircraft fleet.
"Amentum brings advanced technical solutions, including AI-driven predictive maintenance, repair and overhaul services, as well as world-class logistics and deployment expertise to help the state safeguard communities and its economy," said Dr. Karl Spinnenweber, president of Amentum's Mission Solutions business.
The contract encompasses a range of aviation services designed to maintain California's firefighting aircraft fleet in operational readiness. Amentum will deliver maintenance, repair and overhaul services alongside logistics and deployment support.
Spinnenweber noted the extended nature of fire season challenges. "Today's fire season is no longer seasonal. It's a year-round battle that grows more dangerous with each passing year," he said.
The agreement positions Amentum to support California's aerial firefighting operations through comprehensive aviation management services. The company will oversee both personnel and technical aspects of maintaining the state's firefighting aircraft capabilities.
