SK On terminates graphite supply deal with Westwater Resources

April 1, 2026 5:00 PM

Westwater Resources Inc. (NYSE American: WWR) announced that SK On Co. Ltd. terminated their Products Procurement Agreement on March 31, 2026. The agreement, originally executed in February 2024, covered the purchase of a portion of planned Phase I production capacity at Westwater's Kellyton Graphite Plant.

The terminated agreement represented part of Westwater's commercial strategy for its battery-grade natural graphite production facility in Alabama. SK On indicated a willingness to consider future agreements under updated terms and conditions.

"SK On's decision reflects the challenging and evolving environment our customers are navigating," said Frank Bakker, Chief Executive Officer of Westwater Resources. "While market conditions and tariffs remain dynamic, our continued focus is on executing and advancing our projects."

Westwater continues construction at the Kellyton facility and is providing product samples through its qualification line to support customer evaluation processes. The company maintains its timeline of expecting initial battery-grade graphite production within approximately 12 months of securing remaining project financing.

The energy technology company is developing what it describes as a vertically integrated platform for battery-grade natural graphite production in the United States. The platform includes the Coosa Graphite Deposit in Alabama and the Kellyton processing facility, designed to produce coated spherical purified graphite for lithium-ion battery anodes.
