Toyota reports mixed Q1 2026 sales amid production constraints

Toyota Motor North America (NYSE: TM) reported March 2026 U.S. sales of 211,617 vehicles, down 8.5 percent on a volume basis compared to March 2025, according to a company press release statement. Sales decreased 4.9 percent on a daily selling rate basis.

For the first quarter of 2026, Toyota sold 569,420 vehicles, down 0.1 percent on both volume and daily selling rate bases compared to the first quarter of 2025. The Toyota division posted first quarter sales of 488,468 vehicles, up 0.3 percent, while Lexus division reported 80,952 vehicles, down 2.5 percent.

Electrified vehicle sales totaled 115,422 units in March, up 2.5 percent on a volume basis and representing 54.5 percent of total sales volume. First quarter electrified vehicle sales reached 287,276 units, down 0.5 percent and accounting for 50.5 percent of total sales volume.

Several models achieved record sales performance. The Toyota Corolla Cross Gas and Grand Highlander Hybrid achieved all-time best-ever sales figures, while the Lexus RZ and NX Plug-in Hybrid also posted record results.

Andrew Gilleland, senior vice president of Automotive Operations Group at Toyota Motor North America, cited production constraints and limited inventory during the ramp-up of the new RAV4 as factors affecting performance. RAV4 sales declined 47.7 percent to 21,693 units in March.

The company currently offers 32 electrified vehicle options across both Toyota and Lexus brands. Toyota's 4Runner showed significant growth with March sales of 12,380 units, up 77.4 percent from the previous year.
