General Motors (NYSE: GM) reported first-quarter U.S. vehicle deliveries of 626,429 units, representing a 9.7% decline compared to the same period in 2024, according to a company statement.

The automaker said it led U.S. auto industry sales for the quarter despite the year-over-year decrease. GM attributed the decline partly to difficult comparisons with an exceptionally strong March 2024, when industry-wide sales reached a seasonally adjusted annual rate exceeding 18 million units.

Winter storms in January and February impacted market conditions before sales momentum recovered in March, the company stated. GM expects similar industry-wide declines for the first quarter.

"We saw showroom traffic and sales steadily improve after January's storms and March was a much stronger month," said Duncan Aldred, GM Vice President and President of North America.

GM reported market share gains in full-size pickup trucks and maintained its position as the second-largest electric vehicle seller in the industry. The company's Cadillac division recorded a 20% increase in EV sales during the quarter.

GMC achieved its strongest first-quarter retail share performance on record, driven by Canyon and Terrain model sales. The company also reported its best first-quarter fleet sales results since 2020.

GM operates a portfolio that includes six Chevrolet and Buick vehicles with starting prices at approximately $30,000 or below.
