Visa launches six AI-powered dispute resolution tools to cut fraud costs

April 1, 2026 9:02 AM

Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) announced six new dispute resolution tools designed to reduce costs associated with payment disputes and fraud. The tools utilize artificial intelligence and proprietary technology to help financial institutions and merchants address dispute-related expenses.

The payment processor handled 106 million disputes globally in 2025, representing a 35% increase from 2019, according to company data. The new services aim to streamline dispute processes that currently generate billions in annual costs across the payments ecosystem.

For merchants, Visa introduced three tools: the Dispute Resolution Network for pre-dispute handling, available in pilot with general release planned for late 2026; Dispute Recovery Manager, which automates dispute responses using generative AI with pilot expansion scheduled for late 2026; and an updated Order Insight service that will incorporate Compelling Evidence 3.0 functionality by April 2026.

Financial institutions receive three additional tools: Dispute Intelligence, which uses predictive AI models and is currently available; Dispute Doc Analyzer, offering AI-powered document analysis with issuer functionality launching in late April 2026 and acquirer features available now; and Visa Dispute Case Manager, a centralized dispute management platform scheduled for North American release in 2026.

"Disputes put strain on every part of the payments ecosystem, frustrating consumers, while driving cost and complexity for merchants and financial institutions," said Andrew Torre, President of Value-Added Services at Visa.

The announcement follows industry research indicating that manual dispute processes contribute to recoverable revenue losses for financial institutions. The new tools are part of Visa's broader value-added services portfolio aimed at reducing operational friction in digital payments.
