ChargePoint installs 90 EV charging ports for Southern California air agency

April 1, 2026 8:02 AM

ChargePoint (NYSE: CHPT) announced it has installed over 90 charging ports for the South Coast Air Quality Management District across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties, according to a company press release.

The project replaced outdated chargers with 55 new Level 2 ChargePoint units capable of serving 94 vehicles simultaneously. The installation includes multiple ChargePoint CP6000 charging stations, which the company states deliver 60% faster charging than typical Level 2 stations and feature an Omni Port connector system allowing modern electric vehicles to charge without adapters.

"Together with South Coast AQMD, ChargePoint is deploying accessible and reliable charging options for communities within America's largest EV market," said Rick Wilmer, CEO at ChargePoint.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District serves as the regulatory agency responsible for improving air quality in the four-county region. Wayne Nastri, South Coast AQMD Executive Officer, noted that the transportation sector accounts for about 40% of California's greenhouse gases, with light-duty vehicles representing 25-30% statewide.

The charging stations are managed through ChargePoint's software platform, which provides real-time monitoring and performance insights. The installations include accessibility features such as ADA-compliant spacing, signage, and charger placement.

ChargePoint reports it has enabled more than 21 billion electric miles and connects drivers to over 1.37 million public and private charging ports worldwide. The company provides charging solutions across North America and Europe.
