Amentum wins $406 million UK small modular reactor contract
Great British Energy – Nuclear awarded a $406 million contract to a joint venture between Amentum (NYSE: AMTM) and Cavendish Nuclear to serve as owner's engineer for the UK's small modular reactor program.
The agreement spans up to 14 years and will support deployment of Rolls-Royce SMR technology at the Wylfa site in North Wales. The joint venture, called Litmus Nuclear, will provide technical guidance across design, safety, engineering, construction and commissioning phases.
The contract aims to help Great British Energy – Nuclear secure a final investment decision for SMR deployment at Wylfa. The reactors are designed to generate 470 megawatts of electricity and are intended to be built more quickly than traditional nuclear power stations.
Wylfa, located on the island of Anglesey, was announced as the site for the UK's first SMRs by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero in November 2025, according to the press release.
"This award recognizes Amentum's expertise to accelerate the global expansion and revitalization of nuclear energy," said Loren Jones, senior vice president and head of Amentum's Energy & Environment-International business.
Amentum operates more than 6,000 employees in the UK and serves as delivery partner for project management services at Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C nuclear projects. The company also supports existing UK nuclear power stations under an agreement with EDF.
The information is based on a company press release statement.
