e-STORAGE to supply 420 MWh battery systems for Drax UK projects

March 31, 2026 7:01 AM

Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ) announced that its e-STORAGE subsidiary will deliver 420 MWh of battery energy storage systems for Drax Group across two projects in the United Kingdom.

The projects include a 60 MW / 120 MWh installation in Marfleet, England, and a 150 MW / 300 MWh installation in Neilston, Scotland. Both projects were developed by Apatura, a UK energy infrastructure company, and have been acquired by Drax for its FlexGen portfolio.

Battery installations are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026 at the Marfleet site, with the Neilston project expected to start installations in early 2027. e-STORAGE will supply fully integrated battery energy storage systems, including its SolBank 3.0 energy storage batteries, and provide operational services under a long-term service agreement.

"We are looking forward to working with e-STORAGE and Apatura on the development of these battery storage assets," said Lee Dawes, Chief Operations Officer of Drax Group. "This is our first investment in short-duration storage, and these assets will complement our existing generation portfolio."

The systems are designed to enhance grid flexibility and support the integration of renewable generation into the UK electricity system. e-STORAGE will provide monitoring, preventative maintenance, and performance analytics services for the projects.

Canadian Solar, headquartered in Kitchener, Ontario, reported that e-STORAGE has shipped over 18 GWh of battery energy storage solutions to global markets as of December 31, 2025, with a $3.6 billion contracted backlog as of March 13, 2026.
