HII (NYSE: HII) and GrayMatter Robotics will sign a memorandum of understanding on April 6 to advance physical artificial intelligence applications in shipbuilding manufacturing.

The ceremony will take place at GrayMatter's headquarters in Carson, California, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event will include technology demonstrations of physical AI systems and remarks from executives of both companies.

Eric Chewning, HII executive vice president of maritime systems and corporate strategy, and Ariyan Kabir, GrayMatter Robotics CEO and co-founder, will participate in the signing ceremony and speak with media.

HII describes itself as America's largest shipbuilder and builds vessels for U.S. and allied defense customers. The Virginia-based company employs 44,000 people and has operated for more than 140 years.

GrayMatter Robotics, founded in 2020, develops physical AI technologies for manufacturing applications including surface preparation, coating, and inspection processes. The company states its systems can deliver up to 12 times the throughput of manual labor and reduce rework by 95%.

The Carson-based robotics company reports processing over 30 million square feet of surface area across more than 20 industries, serving customers in aerospace, defense, shipbuilding, specialty vehicles, and consumer products.

The memorandum of understanding signing represents a partnership between the shipbuilder and robotics company to implement AI-driven manufacturing solutions in shipbuilding operations.
