Baxter launches IV Verify automated labeling system for hospitals

March 30, 2026 8:32 AM

Baxter International Inc. (NYSE: BAX) introduced the IV Verify Line Labeling System at the 2026 American Organization for Nursing Leadership Conference. The automated system replaces handwritten IV line labels with printed, standardized labels to support medication administration safety.

The system allows clinicians to scan a medication's barcode and instantly print three-part adhesive labels containing drug name, administration time and tubing change times. The labels are applied to IV tubing to help healthcare workers identify and trace lines.

According to a 10-hospital study cited by Baxter, 60 percent of IV infusion labels in intensive care units were not compliant with hospital policies. The company states that unclear or inconsistent IV line labeling can contribute to medication errors.

"At Baxter, we are committed to supporting nurses at the bedside with tools that can help make care safer and more efficient," said Athar Mirza, U.S. and Canada general manager of Baxter's Infusion Therapies and Platforms division.

The IV Verify system includes a printer, labels and ink-free technology. The labels are color-coded to indicate tubing change schedules and designed to remain legible in clinical environments. Studies referenced by Baxter show clinicians saved one to two minutes per IV setup when using the system.

One healthcare system reported increased compliance in line labeling and a reduction in central line associated blood stream infections when the IV Verify system was implemented as part of infection prevention protocols, according to the company.

Baxter developed the product through an exclusive distribution agreement with Vigilant Software, a medication management technology company. The IV Verify system is available in the United States.
