WISeKey launches 21st satellite with quantum security chip aboard SpaceX

March 30, 2026 7:36 AM

WISeKey International Holding Ltd (NASDAQ: WKEY) announced that its subsidiary WISeSat.Space Corp successfully launched its 21st satellite into low Earth orbit aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on March 30.

The WISeSat 4.0 satellite launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California as part of SpaceX's Transporter-16 rideshare mission, which deployed more than 100 satellites into orbit. The satellite is equipped with a QS7001 chip from WISeKey subsidiary SEALSQ Corp (NASDAQ: LAES), designed to provide quantum-secure communications.

WISeKey stated that WISeSat 4.0 integrates the company's trusted Root of Trust technology alongside SEALSQ's post-quantum chip architecture. The satellite is intended to support the deployment of SEALCOIN.AI wallets across the WISeSat constellation for machine-to-machine transactions in orbit.

The company plans multiple additional WISeSat deployments throughout 2026 and 2027 to expand constellation coverage and increase bandwidth. WISeKey indicated that satellites have an average lifespan of approximately five years, requiring continuous renewal of the constellation.

"WISeSat 4.0 is not just another satellite, it is the foundation of a quantum-secure IoT ecosystem capable of connecting billions of devices worldwide," said Carlos Moreira, founder and CEO of WISeKey, according to the company statement.

WISeSat is developing what it describes as the world's first commercial Quantum Spatial Orbital Cloud (QSOC), planning to deploy a 100-satellite constellation by 2033. The system aims to provide quantum key distribution, quantum random number generation, and post-quantum identity services to enterprises and governments.

The company stated that SEALSQ is expected to deliver a 99.9% uptime service-level agreement to customers once the constellation reaches full operational capability, subject to final board approval.
