NN acquires plating equipment to expand electric grid capabilities

March 27, 2026 8:02 AM

NN Inc. (NASDAQ: NNBR) announced it acquired large-scale automated plating operations from a global electrical infrastructure provider to expand its processing capabilities for electric grid and data center components.

The Charlotte-based industrial company said the equipment acquisition will enable it to significantly expand production of silver-plated busbars and terminals used in electric grid and data center equipment. The seller, an existing customer, is transitioning from in-house manufacturing to outsourced operations.

The acquired plating line features larger plating baths designed for high-volume, low-cost production and will allow NN to process larger parts than its current capabilities permit. The company expects the new capability to be operational at an existing facility in fall 2026.

NN said the new business from this line is included in its prior guidance of $70 million to $80 million in new business wins for 2026. The capital expenditure associated with the project falls within the company's 2026 capex guidance of $20 million to $22 million and will be funded from operating cash flow.

The company will initially focus on switchgear assemblies used in emergency power generation for the grid, hospitals, and data centers. Electric grid and data center equipment represents NN's second-largest end market.

"This equipment acquisition is another stepping stone for NN's strategic pivot into certain high-value verticals that fit its operational footprint," said Harold Bevis, president and chief executive officer.

The acquired equipment will be integrated into NN's GMF division, which provides electroplating services and holds NADCAP accreditation along with ISO certifications. GMF processes millions of parts annually across more than 50,000 square feet of production space.

NN reported it has secured more than $200 million in new awards from its technology-based business development program and expects to launch approximately 100 awarded programs during 2026.
