NIQ launches global packaging intelligence platform with monthly data

NielsenIQ (NYSE: NIQ) announced the launch of its Packaging Strategic Planner Global Solution, a platform that provides monthly visibility into packaging performance across materials, formats, and pack configurations globally.

The solution covers more than 200 categories and provides visibility into over 30 package types and 20 package materials. NIQ plans to launch in 10 markets initially, with expansion to 30 markets by the end of 2026.

The platform introduces NIQ's EQ2 metric, which multiplies units by the number in each pack to reflect actual consumption rather than unit sales alone. This metric aims to provide a more accurate understanding of how pack sizes, material choices, and multi-pack configurations perform across different markets.

"The pace of packaging change has increased significantly, from material innovation to pack-size diversification," said Matt Trask, SVP of Global Packaging at NIQ. "With monthly, harmonized visibility and our EQ2 metric, we're closing long-standing data gaps and empowering partners to make smarter decisions, innovate with confidence, and unlock new growth across markets worldwide."

The solution addresses what NIQ identifies as industry reliance on fragmented or annual data for packaging decisions. The platform delivers real-time data monthly across regions to enable brands and packaging partners to identify trends and strengthen relationships with consumer packaged goods and retail partners.

The Packaging Strategic Planner Global solution and EQ2 metric are available through NIQ Discover or via customized reporting, according to the company's announcement.
