ReElement expands Marion refinery to 16,000 metric tons capacity
ReElement Technologies Corporation, a minority holding of American Resources Corporation (NASDAQ: AREC), announced an expansion of its Phase 1 buildout at the Marion, Indiana refining facility. The project now includes four production lines with over 16,000 metric tons of annual separated and purified oxide capacity.
Initial production is expected in the third quarter of 2026, with full Phase 1 commissioning planned through the end of the year. The company stated the project remains on schedule and under budget.
The facility will process both recycled and primary feedstocks across four specialized production lines. The specialty hard products recycling line will handle materials including yttrium, gadolinium, zirconium, samarium, and cobalt, with capacity exceeding 2,000 metric tons annually at 99.9% to 99.99% purity.
Two rare earth element lines will process recycled materials from magnets, hard drives, EV motors, and wind turbines, as well as primary feedstocks including mixed rare earth carbonates and oxides. Each line will have capacity up to 7,000 metric tons annually at 99.5% to 99.999% purity, processing elements such as neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, and terbium.
A semiconductor and strategic materials line will focus on germanium, gallium, and other materials with capacity exceeding 500 metric tons annually at 99.5% purity or higher.
"Our Marion supersite builds on the proven foundation established at Noblesville and represents the next phase of disciplined, rapid expansion," said Mark Jensen, CEO of ReElement Technologies.
The company noted that over 80% of global rare earth refining capacity is concentrated outside the United States. ReElement's platform is designed to process multiple feedstocks and adapt to changing inputs and market conditions through data-driven optimization and advanced process controls.
