ReconAfrica begins production testing at Kavango West discovery well
Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd. (TSXV: RECO) has commenced production testing operations at its Kavango West 1X discovery well in Namibia, according to a company statement.
The company received regulatory permits required for production testing and has work crews on site preparing the well. ReconAfrica has contracted with Halliburton and Schlumberger Oilfield Services for equipment and services, with the production liner arriving on site from North America.
Updated log analysis incorporating additional rock data shows 75 meters of net hydrocarbon pay in the Huttenberg formation, an increase from the previously reported 64 meters. The company plans to conduct production testing across six zones, with three in the Huttenberg formation and three in the deeper Elandshoek formation. A total of 345 meters of prospective interval will be isolated and perforated for testing.
In Gabon, ReconAfrica is reprocessing 3D seismic data over key areas of the Ngulu block, including the Loba discovery. The company expects to commission a third-party resource report by the end of 2026 after selecting an appraisal location.
The Ngulu block covers 1,214 square kilometers in shallow water offshore central Gabon and contains the Loba oil discovery along with over 28 seismically identified prospects.
ReconAfrica operates petroleum licenses covering approximately 13 million contiguous acres across the Damara Fold Belt and Kavango Rift Basin in northeastern Namibia, southeastern Angola and northwestern Botswana. The company also trades on OTCQX under RECAF, Frankfurt as 0XD, and NSX as REC.
