Lockheed Martin completes rapid space payload processing exercise
Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) participated in a U.S. Space Force exercise called VICTUS DIEM, demonstrating rapid payload processing and launch capabilities alongside Firefly Aerospace.
The exercise involved completing all payload processing tasks in less than 12 hours and conducting a 36-hour rapid launch simulation. The companies rehearsed emergency launch protocols designed for responsive space missions after receiving a simulated launch notice.
The demonstration was part of a Space Force-led field training exercise focused on tactically responsive space missions within threat scenarios. The exercise aimed to enhance capabilities for executing space operations on accelerated timelines.
"Speed in space operations has never been more critical," said Kate Watts, vice president of Enterprise Strategy at Lockheed Martin Space. "This exercise showcased our rapid payload processing capability and provided valuable feedback from our government customer on our demonstration efforts."
Space Safari's Director of Operations, USSF Lt. Col. Cliff Johnson, described the mission as "a powerful demonstration of what is achievable through swift collaboration and the strategic leveraging of our commercial partners to meet critical government needs."
The exercise tested protocols for situations where American or allied forces may need to launch space assets quickly to counter threats. The information is based on a company press release statement.
