Roadzen secures patent for AI driver identification system

March 25, 2026 8:45 AM

Roadzen Inc. (NASDAQ: RDZN) announced that its drivebuddyAI platform received a patent in India for an AI-powered facial recognition system that identifies drivers in real-time while vehicles are in motion.

The system uses camera-based technology to continuously verify driver identity, enabling fleet safety monitoring, operational accountability, and electronic logging device compliance. The technology differs from traditional key-based identification systems by providing ongoing verification rather than one-time authentication.

Once driver identity is established, the platform activates additional features including risk profiling, drowsiness detection, safety alerts in the driver's preferred language, and automated tracking of driving hours for regulatory compliance.

The patent brings drivebuddyAI's intellectual property portfolio to more than 15 patents covering computer vision, edge processing, and cognitive risk-assessment technologies. The platform has been trained on over four billion kilometers of driving data and is deployed across passenger and commercial vehicle programs globally.

drivebuddyAI holds certifications for India's AIS-184 standard, the EU's GSR 2144 regulation, and the Euro NCAP 2026 Driver Engagement Protocol. The company states it is the only platform in India certified compliant with AIS-184.

"Driver fatigue remains one of the most critical yet under-addressed causes of highway accidents," said Rohan Malhotra, founder and CEO of Roadzen. "This patent strengthens drivebuddyAI's position as the intelligence layer for fleet safety."

The California-based company develops AI technology for insurance and mobility applications, serving clients across North America, Europe, and Asia. Roadzen employs more than 300 people across offices in the U.S., U.K., and India.
