Akamai launches AI-powered Brand Guardian to combat automated fraud

March 25, 2026 6:31 AM

Akamai Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM) announced the launch of Brand Guardian, an AI-powered tool designed to help enterprises identify and manage brand impersonation threats.

The new service represents an evolution of Akamai's existing Brand Protector offering, adding proactive monitoring capabilities to detect fraudulent websites and digital identities created using generative AI technology.

According to the company, scammers are using widely available AI tools to create sophisticated fake websites and digital identities quickly, making manual detection methods insufficient for businesses to keep pace with emerging threats.

"Automation has fundamentally changed how scammers operate, turning detecting fake sights into a high-stakes game of Whac-A-Mole for security teams," said Sean Lyons, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Application and Infrastructure Security at Akamai.

Brand Guardian uses Akamai's internet traffic visibility to scan for fraudulent assets and look-alike domains automatically. The system prioritizes threats based on real-time risk assessments and provides automated workflows for investigating and removing fraudulent sites.

The solution integrates brand protection data with broader security insights to provide organizations with a comprehensive view of digital risks. Akamai states the platform performs automated takedowns with 99.99% accuracy.

The service targets enterprises in financial services, retail, and healthcare sectors that face threats from fraudulent sites that can damage customer relationships and result in lost revenue.

Brand Guardian is available now for enterprises seeking to secure their digital presence, according to the company's press release.
