Zillow launches AI mode for conversational home search
Zillow Group Inc. (NASDAQ: Z and ZG) announced the launch of Zillow AI mode, a conversational interface that allows users to search for homes, get guidance, and take actions such as scheduling tours or connecting with agents through natural language queries.
The feature is currently available in beta to a limited group of users and will expand throughout 2026, according to the company's statement. The AI mode integrates with Zillow's existing platform to provide real-time responses using live listings data for both rental and for-sale properties.
"We're connecting the entire housing journey with AI in a way that hasn't been possible before," said Jeremy Wacksman, CEO of Zillow. "Because Zillow operates across search, touring, financing, connections to professionals, transacting and closing, we can turn insight and data into real-world action, helping people move from discovery to keys in hand."
The system allows users to ask questions like "Can I afford this apartment if I move in June?" or "Find similar homes within my budget that are closer to light rail." The platform can estimate repair costs, interpret market data such as price cuts, explain affordability calculations, and provide neighborhood insights.
Additional capabilities include comparing property options, analyzing offer competitiveness based on market conditions, explaining Zestimate changes over time, and summarizing rental policies. Users can also schedule tours and apply for rentals directly through the AI interface.
The company stated that Zillow AI mode incorporates its Fair Housing Classifier to prevent discriminatory steering and operates within real estate industry regulations. The feature builds on Zillow's existing AI investments, including the Zestimate and natural language search functions.
Josh Weisberg, senior vice president of AI at Zillow, said the platform adapts to user preferences over time and provides context-aware guidance using the company's data and custom AI models.
