Kratos selected by SKY Perfect JSAT for 5G satellite ground system

March 23, 2026 3:06 PM

Kratos Defense & Security Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ: KTOS) announced that SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation selected the company to develop and validate a 5G Non-Terrestrial Network ground system for SKY Perfect JSAT's Universal NTN initiative.

The partnership will focus on technical validation and early-stage implementation of software-based 5G NTN ground infrastructure as part of SKY Perfect JSAT's strategy in the Asia-Pacific region, according to the press release issued March 23.

Kratos will provide its OpenSpace software-based architecture to support the project. The system enables satellite operators to adopt a standards-based, software-defined network architecture that supports interoperability and multi-vendor environments while maintaining compatibility with existing VSAT systems.

"At this stage, we see strong potential in Kratos' OpenSpace software-based architecture, particularly in terms of flexibility and scalability, as we move into the early phases of our NTN strategy," said Yuma Minowa, General Manager of the Universal NTN Strategy Division at SKY Perfect JSAT. "Our current focus is on initial validation and interoperability, starting from entity-based integration."

The collaboration aims to establish a foundation for phased validation and future development of 5G NTN technology in alignment with 3GPP standards. The companies plan to work together on entity-based integration as part of the initial validation process.

Greg Quiggle, Senior Vice President of Product Management at Kratos, said the partnership focuses on creating ground systems that are "as dynamic and software-driven as the networks they're joining."

Kratos specializes in defense, national security and global markets technology. SKY Perfect JSAT is developing 5G Non-Terrestrial Network capabilities to integrate satellite and terrestrial networks.
