Dell expands cybersecurity offerings with quantum-ready protections
Dell Technologies (NYSE: DELL) announced new cybersecurity and data protection capabilities designed to address emerging threats from quantum computing and artificial intelligence. The company said the enhancements will strengthen device security, improve cyber resilience and extend threat detection capabilities.
The technology company plans to introduce quantum-ready security features to its commercial PCs starting in 2026. These features will harden the PC's embedded controller to verify firmware updates using signatures designed to resist future quantum-enabled attacks. Dell's enhanced BIOS Verification capability will detect tampering by checking the BIOS against a trusted reference stored in Dell's cloud.
Dell is upgrading its PowerProtect cyber resilience portfolio with AI-powered features. The PowerProtect Data Manager will include an AI assistant for contextual guidance during recovery tasks and enhanced anomaly detection to scan Dell PowerStore snapshots for ransomware risks. The company also introduced the PowerProtect Data Domain DD3410 appliance, which Dell claims delivers up to 2x faster backups and 46% faster data restores compared to the DD3300 model.
The company is expanding its Managed Detection and Response service to Dell PowerScale platforms, providing enhanced visibility into threats targeting AI data storage systems. Dell also introduced an Endpoint Detection and Response-only option that will be available in April 2026.
"Quantum computing will break the encryption and digital signatures protecting data today, while agentic AI raises the stakes by increasing the value of data," said John Roese, Dell's global CTO and chief AI officer.
According to Dell's Cyber Resilience Insights research, only 40% of global organizations successfully contained and recovered from a cyberattack with minimal impact. The PowerProtect Data Manager enhancements and Data Domain Operating System updates are currently available, while some features will launch in 2026.
