AMC theaters sees second-highest weekend revenue of 2026
AMC Theatres (NYSE: AMC) reported that "Project Hail Mary" delivered the company's biggest opening weekend of 2026, contributing to its second-highest weekend of the year for admissions revenue both domestically and globally.
The Amazon MGM-distributed film generated a reported worldwide opening weekend of more than $140 million. AMC's global admissions revenue for the weekend was more than 70% higher than the same weekend in 2025.
"Project Hail Mary is a terrific example of how original storytelling combined with expert marketing of the theatrical experience can resonate with audiences and deliver meaningful results at the box office," said AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron.
The strong performance continues a positive year-over-year trend for AMC in 2026. Aron stated that the robust box office track record throughout 2026 makes the company confident that "2026 will wind up being the biggest year since 2019 for moviegoing in theatres."
AMC operates approximately 855 theatres and 9,640 screens globally, making it the largest movie exhibition company in the United States and worldwide. The company's revenue benefited from the film's performance alongside other new releases and continuing films, as well as its premium theatrical experiences including IMAX at AMC and Dolby Cinema at AMC.
