Douglas Elliman to expand into Canada through Sutton Group alliance
Douglas Elliman Inc. (NYSE: DOUG) announced plans to expand into Canada through a partnership with Ross McCredie, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sutton Group. The luxury real estate brokerage will launch Elliman Canada in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.
The company also established a referral program with Sutton Group, one of Canada's largest residential brokerages, effective immediately. The announcement was made at the firm's annual gathering in Aspen, Colorado, where McCredie and Douglas Elliman President and CEO Michael S. Liebowitz signed an agreement to launch the relationship.
McCredie is a real estate entrepreneur who acquired Sutton Group in 2023 through his firm McCredie Investments. He previously founded Sotheby's International Realty Canada in 2004, growing it to 900 agents across 40 offices. Sutton Group operates over 200 offices with 6,000 agents across Canada.
"Canada represents a significant and timely opportunity for Elliman and our agents," said Liebowitz in the press release. The expansion follows Douglas Elliman's recent entry into European markets including France, Monaco and St. Barths.
Douglas Elliman operates as one of the largest residential brokerage companies in the United States, with operations across multiple states including New York, California, Florida, and Texas. The company provides real estate services including development marketing and mortgage services in select markets.
The Canadian expansion is part of what the company describes as a growth strategy that includes recent senior-level hires at the brokerage level. Douglas Elliman's licensing alliance will enable the company to serve international real estate needs directly without third-party intermediaries.
