Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ: CMTL) delivered the first set of Enterprise Digital Intermediate Frequency Multicarrier modems to the U.S. Army as part of a $48.6 million contract, the company announced.

The delivery supports Final Acceptance Testing scheduled for this summer and represents progress in the Army's satellite communications modernization efforts. The EDIM program aims to replace aging Enhanced Bandwidth Efficient Modems currently used by Army, Navy and Air Force satellite communications operators.

Under the contract, Comtech is designing, developing, testing and delivering EDIM modems along with an EDIM Modem Management System and sustainment services. The modems will support multiple satellite providers and are designed to work across diverse platforms and environments.

Three of the delivered modems are being provided to industry partners for integration and electronic training manual development. The EDIM modem represents the first strategic Digital Intermediate Frequency Interoperability-compliant modem to be fielded by the U.S. Army.

"Delivering these first EDIM modems is a major achievement for Comtech," said Daniel Gizinski, President of Comtech's Satellite & Space Communications segment. "This milestone reflects the dedication and technical excellence of our team and sets the stage for successful integration and deployment in support of the U.S. Army's SATCOM modernization goals."

The modems are progressing through the development phase and are expected to be fielded following Final Acceptance Testing. The information is based on a company press release.
