T1 Energy receives 50MW grid allocation for Norway data center project
T1 Energy Inc. (NYSE: TE) announced that Norway's national grid operator, Statnett, has allocated 50MW of grid power to the company's existing 926,000-square-foot industrial building in Mo i Rana, Norway.
The power allocation will enable T1 Energy to advance its plans to convert the existing industrial facility into a data center. The company remains in the interconnection queue for an additional 396MW of power capacity.
The 50MW allocation requires installation of uninterruptible power supply and step-down transformer infrastructure to serve data center operations. The power allocation is temporary and runs through the end of 2033, with operations potentially beginning as early as the second quarter of 2027.
"Access to 50MW is a key step forward. It represents the first phase of a world-class data center development and accelerates our dialogue with parties seeking available, scalable, and secure European AI infrastructure," said Andreas Bentzen, T1 Energy's Chief Technology Officer.
T1 Energy has engaged Pareto Securities to maximize shareholder value of the Mo i Rana facility. The company is separately awaiting a decision from Norway's Energy Complaints Board regarding a dispute over an additional 60MW of grid capacity allocation.
The Mo i Rana location operates on nearly 100% hydroelectric power and benefits from Norway's cold climate for cooling efficiency. T1 Energy's primary business focus remains building a U.S. solar supply chain, including its G2_Austin solar cell manufacturing facility.
T1 Energy completed a transaction in December 2024 that positioned the company as a solar manufacturing entity in the United States with complementary solar and battery storage operations.
