FirstEnergy restores power to 97% of 1.1 million storm-affected customers
FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) has restored power to more than 97% of nearly 1.1 million customers affected by storms over recent days, with about 35,400 customers remaining without service as of March 17, 2026.
The utility company deployed more than 10,000 employees, contractors and outside resources to support restoration efforts following Friday's windstorm. Crews are simultaneously addressing new outages from winds and thunderstorms that moved through the region, with the greatest impacts in eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey.
Among FirstEnergy's subsidiaries, several have achieved restoration rates above 98%. The Illuminating Company restored power to nearly 99% of 212,400 affected customers, while Ohio Edison restored service to more than 99% of 254,000 impacted customers. Toledo Edison achieved nearly 100% restoration for 40,900 customers.
In the Mid-Atlantic region, Jersey Central Power & Light restored power to more than 47,300 customers in northern and central New Jersey, with 4,900 remaining without service. Met-Ed restored service to more than 39,400 customers in eastern Pennsylvania, with 13,400 still affected.
The company has set estimated restoration times for most outages, which customers can view online or through individual accounts. Global restoration times will be established for the Met-Ed area of Pennsylvania, Jersey Central Power & Light in New Jersey, and Mon Power in West Virginia.
Most remaining outages in several service areas are expected to be restored by the end of March 17, with specific times ranging from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. depending on the utility subsidiary.
