Microsoft reorganizes AI division to unify Copilot efforts

March 17, 2026 11:08 AM

Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) announced organizational changes to its artificial intelligence operations, combining its consumer and commercial Copilot efforts into a unified structure.

Jacob Andreou will lead the combined Copilot experience as Executive Vice President, Copilot, reporting directly to CEO Satya Nadella. Andreou previously served as Chief Vice President of Product and Growth at Microsoft AI and was formerly Senior Vice President at Snap Inc.

The reorganization establishes four connected pillars: Copilot experience, Copilot platform, Microsoft 365 apps, and AI models. Mustafa Suleyman, Executive Vice President and CEO of Microsoft AI, will focus on the company's superintelligence mission and AI model development.

Ryan Roslansky, Perry Clarke, and Charles Lamanna will oversee Microsoft 365 apps and the Copilot platform. These executives, along with Andreou and Suleyman, will form the Copilot Leadership Team.

"It's clear a new era of productivity is emerging as AI experiences rapidly evolve from answering questions and suggesting code, to executing multi-step tasks," Nadella stated in an employee communication.

The restructuring aims to move Microsoft "from a collection of great products to a truly integrated system," according to Nadella's message. The changes reflect Microsoft's focus on AI capabilities including Copilot Tasks, Copilot Cowork, and Agent 365.

Suleyman emphasized the company's commitment to building frontier AI models, stating the reorganization will enable him to "focus all my energy on our Superintelligence efforts and be able to deliver world class models for Microsoft over the next 5 years."

The information was disclosed in internal employee communications from both executives on Tuesday.
