Itron integrates AI platform with NVIDIA for electric grid intelligence

March 16, 2026 4:33 PM

Itron Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI) demonstrated integration of its distributed intelligence platform with NVIDIA's Jetson platform for artificial intelligence applications at the electric grid edge, according to a company statement.

The demonstration showed how the technology processes waveform data from Itron endpoints using AI for local anomaly detection to identify faults or wildfire risks. The Jetson platform enables real-time data analysis from Itron's distributed intelligence-enabled endpoints.

The AI deployment at the grid edge enables faster fault location compared to traditional methods through continuous learning capabilities. The technology processes high-frequency, real-time data collected by Itron's intelligent endpoints to perform inference at the edge and identify faults.

NVIDIA Jetson's compute platform delivers real-time, low-latency processing of large data quantities. When applied to the high-frequency data from Itron's endpoints, detection and classification applications can pinpoint faults with greater speed and accuracy while learning to recognize risk conditions.

"Through our collaboration with NVIDIA, Itron is demonstrating AI at the grid edge, leveraging our DI platform, to help utilities better detect and classify conditions that may indicate faults, wildfire risk or other emerging threats," said Don Reeves, senior vice president of Outcomes at Itron.

The collaboration addresses grid complexity challenges requiring utilities to process high-fidelity data closer to the source for real-time decision-making. Itron's Grid Edge Intelligence portfolio supports distributed intelligence across distribution grids, enabling utilities to apply AI-assisted analytics.

Itron, based in Liberty Lake, Washington, provides intelligent infrastructure solutions for energy and water management. The company's distributed intelligence platform includes Grid Edge Intelligence applications designed to support utility operations.
