NVIDIA forms Nemotron Coalition with eight AI labs for open models

March 16, 2026 4:20 PM

NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) announced the formation of the NVIDIA Nemotron Coalition, a collaboration between the company and eight AI laboratories to develop open-source artificial intelligence models.

The coalition includes Black Forest Labs, Cursor, LangChain, Mistral AI, Perplexity, Reflection AI, Sarvam, and Thinking Machines Lab as inaugural members. The group will work together to create frontier-level foundation models through shared expertise, data, and computing resources.

The first project will be a base model co-developed by Mistral AI and NVIDIA, with other coalition members contributing data, evaluations, and domain expertise. The model will be trained on NVIDIA DGX Cloud and will be open-sourced to enable developers to customize AI systems for specific industries and applications.

This initial model will form the foundation for the upcoming NVIDIA Nemotron 4 family of models. Each coalition member brings specific capabilities, including multimodal expertise from Black Forest Labs, performance evaluation datasets from Cursor, and agent development capabilities from LangChain.

"Open models are the lifeblood of innovation and the engine of global participation in the AI revolution," said Jensen Huang, NVIDIA's founder and CEO, according to the company's press release.

The coalition aims to advance open AI development by combining resources from multiple organizations rather than relying on individual company efforts. Members will contribute their specialized knowledge while continuing to develop their independent models and platforms.

The announcement was made during NVIDIA's GTC conference.
