General Mills brings back La Tiara taco shells nationwide

March 16, 2026 12:00 PM

General Mills (NYSE: GIS) announced the return of La Tiara taco shells and seasoning, expanding the regional Kansas City brand to national distribution for the first time. The company acquired La Tiara in May 2025 and reopened its Gladstone, Missouri facility, creating over 100 jobs in the region.

The thin, crispy corn taco shells originally developed a following in the Kansas City area and surrounding states. A Facebook group called "Please Bring Back La Tiara Taco Shells" accumulated over 20,000 members advocating for the product's return.

"We've answered the call from an incredibly engaged group of local superfans," said Meredith Nelson Uram, Mexican Business Unit Director at General Mills. "We're not just bringing back a cherished product. We're reigniting a legacy, creating jobs, and — for the first time ever — making the crunch of a La Tiara taco shell available to families across the country."

The relaunched product line includes taco shells made with stone-ground masa in yellow and white corn varieties. Along with the original taco seasoning, La Tiara will introduce three new seasoning flavors: Chorizo, Tinga, and Reduced Sodium.

Beginning in April, La Tiara products will be available exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide. General Mills has operated in Missouri since 1921 and currently employs nearly 2,400 people in the state across various brands including Nature Valley, Old El Paso, Progresso and Blue Buffalo.

The company reported fiscal 2025 net sales of $19 billion, according to the press release statement.
