Illumina forms consortium with Veritas Genetics for preventive genomics
Illumina Inc. (NASDAQ: ILMN) announced a strategic collaboration with Veritas Genetics to create a consortium aimed at integrating whole-genome sequencing into health insurance plans across the United States and other global markets, according to a company press release.
The partnership combines Illumina's sequencing and informatics technologies with Veritas Genetics' reporting and interpretation services to deliver preventive genomics programs through healthcare insurers. The collaboration seeks to enable earlier identification of disease risk and personalized prevention strategies.
"Genomics is increasingly moving upstream in healthcare, from diagnosing disease to helping prevent it," said Rami Mehio, general manager of BioInsight at Illumina. "By combining Illumina's sequencing and informatics backbone with Veritas' patient-ready reporting, this collaboration represents an important step forward in making preventive genomics actionable, accessible, and integrated into everyday healthcare."
The consortium will provide opt-in preventive genomics programs that deliver genomic insights and connect them to appropriate interventions. The program includes integrated care pathways for actionable findings, confirmatory testing, specialist referrals, and access to genetic counseling services.
Veritas will utilize Illumina's whole-genome sequencing, DRAGEN analysis methods, and artificial intelligence-enabled insights. The company will provide interpretation capabilities through its myGenome reporting system, clinical interpretation services, and genetic counseling access.
The initiative targets earlier identification of elevated risk across hereditary cancer, cardiometabolic disease, and medication response areas. Javier de EchevarrÃa, CEO of Veritas Genetics, said the myGenome service was developed to integrate into health insurer environments and enable members to benefit from preventive genomics.
The collaboration also aims to create a consented clinical-genomics dataset to enable industry partnerships across precision medicine applications.
