China and U.S. reach preliminary consensus in Paris trade talks
Investing.com -- Chinese trade negotiator Li Chenggang said Monday that China and the United States reached a preliminary consensus during trade discussions in Paris, with both sides addressing economic concerns.
Li said the talks covered trade and economic issues important to both nations. He confirmed that China noticed the U.S. rollout of restrictive measures targeting China and raised objections regarding Section 301 probes during the negotiations.
Li stated that China opposes unilateral probes and will closely monitor the progress of these investigations. He emphasized that both sides agree stable trade relations serve the interests of both countries.
The Chinese negotiator expressed hope that the U.S. will keep its promises and meet China halfway in ongoing discussions. Li confirmed that both parties will continue to engage in consultations following the Paris meeting.
The Section 301 probes refer to U.S. trade investigations that can lead to tariffs or other trade restrictions on countries accused of unfair trade practices.
