Xanadu and TELUS partner to develop quantum data center in Canada

March 16, 2026 7:03 AM

Xanadu Quantum Technologies Inc. and TELUS have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on developing quantum computing infrastructure in Canada. The partnership will explore creating hybrid quantum-classical computing systems that combine quantum processors with high-performance computing infrastructure.

The collaboration aims to provide Canadian enterprises, researchers, and government organizations with access to quantum computing capabilities while maintaining data and intellectual property within Canada. TELUS will contribute its data center operations and fiber network infrastructure, while Xanadu will provide photonic quantum computing expertise.

"Canada has a unique opportunity to lead the world in quantum computing," said Christian Weedbrook, founder and chief executive officer of Xanadu. "TELUS operates some of the most advanced sovereign, digital infrastructure in the country, and together we are excited to explore how quantum computing could integrate with next-generation data centre environments."

The companies plan to explore opportunities across quantum hardware, software, algorithms, applications, and educational initiatives. They will also examine research programs and pilot projects to advance quantum innovation in Canada.

The announcement follows Xanadu's Project OPTIMISM, where the governments of Canada and Ontario are negotiating up to CAD $390 million in combined support for the company to establish semiconductor and photonic manufacturing capabilities.

TELUS (NYSE: TU) generates over $20 billion in annual revenue and operates in more than 45 countries. Xanadu, founded in 2016, is undergoing a business combination with Crane Harbor Acquisition Corp. (NASDAQ: CHAC) that is expected to provide approximately US$500 million in gross proceeds.
