HIVE Digital expands AI data center capacity 4x in Canada

March 16, 2026 2:22 AM

HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd. (TSXV: HIVE) (NASDAQ: HIVE) announced a four-fold expansion of its liquid-cooled AI data center capacity in Canada through its subsidiary BUZZ High Performance Computing. The expansion grows the company's critical IT load from 4 megawatts in Manitoba to 16.6 MW across two Canadian provinces.

The expansion adds a new colocation facility in British Columbia providing 5 MW of immediate capacity, with an option to scale an additional 7.6 MW. The new capacity supports deployment of approximately 2,000 next-generation high-power density AI-optimized GPUs in British Columbia, complementing capacity for about 2,000 GPUs in the existing Manitoba facility.

HIVE's AI colocation footprint with Bell Canada AI Fabric now spans Manitoba with 4 MW of critical IT load and British Columbia with 5 MW available immediately. The company has deployed 504 AI-optimized GPUs consuming approximately 1 MW in Manitoba, with 3 MW of remaining capacity.

The company stated no additional capital expenditures are required to secure the expanded colocation capacity, as deposits made in 2025 with the strategic data center partner are sufficient to secure the full growth pipeline.

"This expansion gives us committed liquid-cooled data center capacity across two provinces, and a clear path to over 6,000 next-generation AI-optimized GPUs in Canada," said Aydin Kilic, President and CEO of HIVE.

HIVE targets 4,000 next-generation AI-optimized GPUs for contracted revenue in the next six months and aims for $200 million in contracted annualized run-rate revenue by March 31, 2027. The company is targeting 75% HPC EBITDA margins for new long-term GPU contracts with enterprise clients.

The company also announced it is exploring phasing out ASIC-based hashrate production in Sweden due to ongoing enforcement actions and disputed tax assessments by Swedish tax authorities. HIVE is transitioning its 7 MW Boden facility to support GPU clusters based on NVIDIA GB300 GPU architecture.
