Wellgistics shifts strategy toward direct-to-consumer pharmacy services
Wellgistics Health Inc. (NASDAQ: WGRX) announced March 13 that President and Interim-CEO Prashant Patel released a letter to shareholders outlining a strategic shift toward selling prescription drugs directly to patients through the company's online pharmacy platform.
The Tampa-based health information technology company plans to transition from its current focus on pharmaceutical distribution to direct-to-consumer services, leveraging its EinsteinRx artificial intelligence platform and PharmacyChain blockchain technology for patient care optimization.
Patel cited changes in the healthcare landscape, including federal government involvement in prescription drug discount programs and pharmaceutical manufacturers offering direct-to-consumer sales through their own online pharmacies, as drivers for the strategic pivot.
The company has formed partnerships to support this transition, including an agreement with NFL Alumni Health for marketing reach and a technology licensing deal with DataVault AI for drug serialization solutions. Wellgistics also gained access to eligibility and benefits verification tools to compete for pharmacy partner verification business.
Through its partnership with Tollo Health, Wellgistics plans to target chronic conditions including diabetes and obesity with medical food product Forzet, and Long COVID patients with dietary supplement Tollovid. The company also aims to address viral infections through natural medical food product Galectovid.
Wellgistics operates a network connecting over 6,500 pharmacies and 200 manufacturers, providing wholesale distribution, digital prescription routing, and AI-powered services including eligibility verification and prior authorization support.
The company stated it is developing telemedicine and diagnostic testing strategies to create a closed-loop ecosystem for pharmaceutical partners, while engaging with payers interested in using PharmacyChain technology to address healthcare system inefficiencies.
