Pomdoctor shifts strategy to AI-powered wearables for chronic disease care
Pomdoctor Limited (NASDAQ: POM) announced a strategic shift to focus on artificial intelligence and medical-grade smart wearables for chronic disease management, according to a company statement.
The China-based online medical services platform plans to develop medical-grade wearable devices that provide continuous physiological data for chronic disease monitoring, particularly for diabetes and cardiovascular conditions. The company will build an AI-powered management system using health data from wearables and clinical treatment guidelines to support risk monitoring and treatment plans.
Pomdoctor operates as an internet hospital platform connecting patients with doctors and pharmaceutical products. The company ranked sixth in China's internet hospital market based on contracted doctors in 2022, according to Frost & Sullivan data cited in the announcement.
The strategic upgrade will integrate hardware terminals and AI systems with the company's existing internet hospital platform, pharmaceutical supply chain, and chronic disease service infrastructure. All research and development activities will comply with medical regulatory requirements in China and the United States, the company stated.
"The integration of AI and medical-grade wearable technologies is reshaping the paradigm of chronic disease management," said Zhenyang Shi, chairman and chief executive officer of Pomdoctor. "Through this strategic upgrade, we will steadily advance technology R&D and real-world implementation to develop clinically meaningful chronic disease management solutions."
Global Market Insights data cited in the announcement indicates the global chronic disease management market was valued at $6.2 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $18.8 billion by 2034, representing an 11.7% compound annual growth rate. In China, approximately 180 million people live with chronic conditions, driven by an aging population.
The company plans to leverage its internet hospital qualifications, nationwide network of licensed physicians, and compliance management system to support the strategic transformation.
