Joby completes electric air taxi demonstration flight across San Francisco Bay
Joby Aviation Inc. (NYSE: JOBY) completed demonstration flights across the San Francisco Bay Area, with its aircraft flying past the Golden Gate Bridge and around the Marin Headlands. The company's aircraft, piloted by Andrea Pingitore, departed from Oakland International Airport during the flight demonstration.
The flight marks the beginning of Joby's 2026 Electric Skies Tour, a national showcase planned to coincide with the United States' 250th anniversary. The company plans to present its aircraft in cities across the country as part of the tour.
Joby was selected as a partner in multiple winning applications under the White House-backed eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP), allowing the company to begin early operations across 10 states: Arizona, Florida, Idaho, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, and Utah.
The company reported completing thousands of test flights and logging more than 50,000 miles across its fleet. Joby stated it successfully flew its first FAA-conforming aircraft for Type Inspection Authorization, which the company said paves the way for FAA pilots to conduct tests later this year.
"The Bay Area is home to the world's most innovative companies, including Joby, but it's also an area with significant traffic and unique geographical barriers," said JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby. "Our technology provides an opportunity to build on the immense potential of this region while protecting it for the next generation."
Joby acquired a 700,000-square-foot facility in Dayton, Ohio, which alongside its production site in Marina, California and powertrain facility in San Carlos, California, is designed to support plans to increase production to four aircraft per month in 2027. The company stated its Dayton facilities are expected to support delivery of up to 500 aircraft per year over time.
The information is based on a company press release statement.
