SciSparc subsidiary publishes patent for obesity treatment combination
SciSparc Ltd. (NASDAQ: SPRC) announced that its subsidiary NeuroThera Labs Inc. published an international patent application under the Patent Cooperation Treaty for a combination therapy targeting weight loss and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
The patent covers a combination of 5-methoxy-2-aminoindane (MEAI) and Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), developed through a collaboration between NeuroThera and Clearmind Medicine Inc. SciSparc holds approximately 75% controlling interest in NeuroThera Labs.
The combination therapy is described as a non-hallucinogenic neuroplastogen treatment addressing obesity, which affects over 890 million adults worldwide, and MASLD, impacting approximately 30% of the global adult population. The companies state the treatment may offer an alternative to GLP-1 agonists for obesity and MASLD management.
The patent publication combines Clearmind's MEAI platform with NeuroThera's PEA compound. The global weight loss drugs market was valued at approximately $37 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $226 billion by 2035, according to the company's statement.
SciSparc operates through its majority-owned subsidiary NeuroThera Labs, focusing on cannabinoid pharmaceutical development. Current drug development programs include SCI-110 for Tourette syndrome and Alzheimer's disease treatment, and SCI-210 for autism spectrum disorder and status epilepticus treatment.
