NUVVE JAPAN K.K. announced it has signed a 20-year merchant aggregation agreement with a Taiwanese corporation for a 2MW/8MWh battery energy storage system in Kani City, Gifu Prefecture. The project is scheduled for grid connection in January 2027.

Under the agreement, NUVVE JAPAN will serve as the designated aggregator, providing market integration and dispatch optimization for the grid-scale battery system. The company has received a subscription fee of $70,000, according to the press release.

The battery storage system will operate across three Japanese power markets: the Japan Electric Power Exchange for energy arbitrage, the Ancillary Services Market for frequency regulation, and the Capacity Market for long-term reliability services. NUVVE JAPAN estimates the combination of these services will generate between $255,000 and $382,000 in annual margin for the 2MW system.

The Taiwanese company will handle project development, ownership and maintenance, while NUVVE JAPAN will manage asset operations and automated dispatch control. The 8MWh system represents a 4-hour duration battery installation.

NUVVE JAPAN is a subsidiary of Nuvve Holding Corp., which operates energy management platforms for electric vehicles and distributed energy assets. The parent company is headquartered in San Diego, California.
